New Resident Evil Movie Will Tell an Original Story, Not Retell the Games
Director Zach Cregger promises a fresh plot that respects the games’ universe while avoiding classic storylines.
NOVIDADES DA SEMANAFILMES/SÉRIES

Resident Evil reboot will feature an original story faithful to the games’ lore, without retelling past events or original protagonists.
Fans of Resident Evil can expect a fresh take on the franchise’s cinematic future. The upcoming reboot, directed by Zach Cregger, will not follow the familiar storylines from the games, such as those of Leon, Claire, or Jill. In an interview with Inverse, Cregger explained that his goal is to create an entirely new plot — a true love letter to the series — while avoiding direct adaptations of existing stories.
Known for Barbarian and Weapons, the filmmaker stressed that the movie will stay true to the established lore of Resident Evil, ensuring it fits naturally into the game’s universe. Still, he aims to surprise even the most dedicated fans.
“It’s not breaking the rules of the games. I’m a big fan, and I’m telling a story that respects the universe but is different. Leon’s story, for example, is already in the games and doesn’t need to be retold,” he said.
While this approach is bold, many believe it could finally deliver a worthy live-action adaptation of Resident Evil, a franchise that has had mixed results on the big screen. Now the question is: will the fans embrace this new vision?
